Test Grade Calculator: Calculate Score & Percentage (Easy Grader)

You just finished a test. You know you missed 7 questions out of 65. Instead of fumbling with a calculator app, use this Test Grade Calculator to instantly see your percentage and letter grade.

Whether you are a teacher grading papers, a high school student checking your GPA, or a professional preparing for certification exams (like CISSP or CompTIA), this tool simplifies the math.

How to Use This Calculator

Most grading tools are rigid. We built this one to be flexible because real-world testing varies.

  1. Enter Total Questions: Input the total number of questions on the exam (e.g., 50, 100, or 150).
  2. Enter Wrong Answers: It is often easier to count the “Red Marks” than the green ones. Enter the number of questions you missed.
  3. See Your Score: The tool automatically calculates the Correct Answers, your Percentage, and your Letter Grade (A, B, C, D, or F).

The “Quick Grading Table” Feature

Below the main result, you will see a dynamic Score Chart.

  • For Teachers: This is a digital “EZ Grader.” You don’t need to type in every single student’s score. Just look at the table to see that “Minus 3” equals a “94%”.
  • For Students: You can instantly see the “Safety Zone.” For example, if you need a passing grade of 70%, the table shows you exactly how many questions you can afford to miss.

Grading Scales Explained

Not all tests use the standard “A-F” scale. Here is how to interpret your percentage based on your specific goal.

1. Standard Academic Scale (High School/College)

  • A: 90% โ€“ 100% (Excellent)
  • B: 80% โ€“ 89% (Good)
  • C: 70% โ€“ 79% (Average)
  • D: 60% โ€“ 69% (Poor)
  • F: 0% โ€“ 59% (Fail)

2. Professional Certification Exams (IT & Nursing)

If you are using this tool for certification practice, the “Letter Grade” matters less than the Passing Threshold.

  • CompTIA (A+, Network+): Usually requires 72% to 75% (on a 900 scale).
  • CISSP / CISA: Requires a scaled score of 700/1000 (approx. 70%).
  • Nursing (NCLEX/HESI): Often requires higher benchmarks (e.g., 85% or higher) during practice tests to ensure readiness.

The Math: How to Calculate Test Scores Manually

If you want to do this without a tool, here is the simple formula:

Score = (Correct Answers / Total Questions) ร— 100

Example:

  • Total Questions: 40
  • Wrong Answers: 6
  • Correct Answers: 34

34 รท 40 = 0.85 0.85 ร— 100 = 85% (Grade: B)
