Grading Scales Explained

Not all tests use the standard “A-F” scale. Here is how to interpret your percentage based on your specific goal.

1. Standard Academic Scale (High School/College)

• A: 90% – 100% (Excellent)
• B: 80% – 89% (Good)
• C: 70% – 79% (Average)
• D: 60% – 69% (Poor)
• F: 0% – 59% (Fail)

2. Professional Certification Exams (IT & Nursing)

If you are using this tool for certification practice, the “Letter Grade” matters less than the Passing Threshold.

• CompTIA (A+, Network+): Usually requires 72% to 75% (on a 900 scale).
• CISSP / CISA: Requires a scaled score of 700/1000 (approx. 70%).
• Nursing (NCLEX/HESI): Often requires higher benchmarks (e.g., 85% or higher) during practice tests to ensure readiness.

The Math: How to Calculate Test Scores Manually
